Just to break the stunned silence: this sounds really cool; the more
detailed literature there is for Double Ratchet implementations the
better - thank you on behalf of the community for spending the time to
formally document the Signal behaviour.
There's a whole spectrum of detail to be had here, ranging from your
original sketch[1], the terse/mathematical Olm spec[2], the HL
description of the Wire Security Whitepaper[3] or indeed the HL
description of the WhatsApp Security Whitepaper[4]. It'll be really
interesting to see where it goes, and how any of these may feed into
some kind of IETF double ratchet spec.
Do you have any idea what sort of license the docs will be released under?
